With a humble and modest inception, golf in Canmore was formed by a small group of locals comprised of coal miners, businessmen and sport enthusiasts. Their dream was to make Canmore a better place to live and create a golf course to be enjoyed by locals and friends.
That year was 1926. The very fabric and emotion of the first meeting remains today in a facility that, in the early 60’s expanded to the present location including 18 holes, clubhouse and curling rink. The original course consisted of 9 holes of average quality with sand greens and coffee cans for holes. Locals not only played the course but were also the builders and operators and quite proud of their little “gem”.
Today the course boosts 18 holes with grass greens, lush fairways all well manicured and maintained. The community and golf course has become very popular with locals and guests visiting from all over the world. The main feature of being a local course and playing in an open atmosphere has still remained to this day.
The course is not long by design but chock full with shots that require skill and strategy. All the clubs in the bag will be needed as this is a thinker’s course. Holes with narrow fairways, bunkers and water protected pin locations that can be played from 4 sets of tees. The course has something for all levels of players from the beginner to the most skilled professional. The mountain views, natural water hazards, famous Bow River and the occasional visit from the native wildlife will all be a wonderful diversion from you game.
The beauty of the course is boosted by the additional amenities of the facility. Following your round, enjoy the breathtaking views from the clubhouse deck while enjoying the locally prepared menu from the restaurant. The clubhouse is able to host groups up to 700 people for weddings, social events or corporate outings.
The Canmore Golf and Curling Club is a very proud member of the community. It is a semi-private course with welcoming hospitality for both members and guests.
